Classmates, Louise, everything seems in a great harmony! We all have fun and learn things as well. I can always feel relaxed when attending EAL. I felt like back again! Because I came really late last year, I’m still year 11 now, and I’m doing EAL again this year. I came to LC last September, so it is not strange to me at all. I was really happy when the school started. Holidays are relaxed indeed, but I had already got tired of it. I’m trying not to think badly of Mrs Moffat, but I have no idea who this man could be! How confusing! Now I’m long to know what the rest part of the story will be.

Chapter 12 ended with Akira’s discovery of Jess, the homestay mother, having dinner with a strange man. The name J.M is mentioned in the previous chapter, maybe it’s the name of Mr and Mrs Moffat’s son who was no longer alive. The plot seems interesting and make people eager to know what’s going to happen next. What’s more, there’re also some funny dialogues between Akira and Stolly, as well as the customers when Akira firstly worked in the bar. For example, the puzzled feeling before he came to another country is just the same with mine! I’ve got such a feeling that I’m not alone from that.

It shows Akira’s most real feelings, which really strikes a chord in me. I think it’s a good story that is worth reading. Because it is written in Akira’s point of view, we can’t find out what Angie was actually thinking at that time, there’s so many unknowns about Angie to be found out.

Up to chapter 12, Angie was just a girl full of mystery. On the opposite, Angie was the one who showed great hostility to Akira and even wanted to drive him away at first. Also, she showed great interest in learning Japanese from Akira. She was the only one who gave Akira a warm welcome when he first arrived the airport. Daisy was the younger one, who was always full of passion, being very friendly to Akira. They are Akira’s homestay sisters but had totally different characters. There’re two outstanding characters, Daisy and Angie. I quite like Akira, because all of his feelings, his mistakes, and his thoughts make him so real.

Satoshi was Akira’s best friend, but he committed suicide because of the pressure from his father.Īkira is a traditional Japanese boy who is always polite and humble, also easy to get shy, which is so cute! He was trying to improve his English all the time, trying to apply every new word he learnt to life, thus caused a few hilarious mistakes. Akira is a Japanese boy who was sent by his father to go to Australia for studying English and to broaden his eyes. The novel is actually a letter wrote from Akira, the main character, to Satoshi, talking about his experiences with his homestay family and friends when he was studying in Hobart. We have started reading a novel called “The Spare Room”, which is written by Kathryn Lomer since a few weeks ago.
